National Volunteer Month: Honoring the Heart of Compass House 💛

April is National Volunteer Month, and at Compass House, we are taking this moment to shine a light on the incredible individuals who give their time, talents, and energy to support youth experiencing homelessness and crisis in our community.

Our volunteers are the heartbeat of Compass House. Whether they’re helping to organize donation drives, cleaning and beautifying our spaces, serving meals, mentoring youth, or lending their professional skills behind the scenes—each volunteer plays a vital role in our mission to provide safety, shelter, and hope to young people in need.

This past year alone, we’ve been amazed by the outpouring of support from local schools, community groups, corporations, and individuals who have stepped up in meaningful ways.

From Ingram Micro’s consistent volunteer teams, to youth-led drives from Clarence High School and Bishop Timon, and hands-on help from groups like Lumsden McCormick, IBM, M&T Bank, and many more, we are reminded every day that change happens when people come together.

Our Jacobs School of Medicine interns, who have become part of our Compass House family through UB’s Community Connect program, continue to bring fresh ideas, compassion, and deep commitment to learning and serving. Volunteer efforts like these don’t just improve our programs—they uplift our staff and inspire our youth.

When a young person walks into Compass House, they’re often coming from a place of fear, instability, or trauma. Thanks to our volunteers, they walk into a space that feels warm, welcoming, and full of care. That matters more than we can ever truly express.

To everyone who has ever given a few hours, a donation, or simply spread the word about our work—thank you. You are helping us build brighter futures, one moment of kindness at a time.

If you’re interested in joining our amazing community of volunteers, we’d love to have you. Email Adam Noonan at anoonan@compasshouse.org

to learn more about how you can get involved.

This month and every month, we celebrate YOU—our volunteers. Compass House couldn’t do it without you. 💙
